The earliest settlers of Winter Park were Europeans; they started coming in after David Mizell Jr. bought eight acres of land in the area. A small settlement called Lake View developed around his land. In 1870, the area got its first post office, and its name was changed to Osceola. It began to develop well after 1880, when the railway track that connected Sanford and Orlando was laid nearby. Some businessmen got together and started the Winter Park Company in 1885. They bought the town of Osceola and developed it as a resort for wealthy people.

Winter Park is a lovely city. It offers opportunities for numerous activities that would entertain people with varied tastes. One can visit museums or any of the beautiful parks which have facilities for various outdoor fun activities. Some great festivals, like the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, are also held in this area. An exotic car show is held every October at Central Park. The city is most easily reached via the Orlando International Airport. College level education is provided by Rollins College.
